  • Diploma of Financial Planning
  • Bachelor of Business (Banking & Finance)

Michael began his career in financial services and funds management, working with major financial institutions before establishing his own highly successful financial planning company.

He made the switch to the racing industry in the early 2000s and has spent the past 20 years syndicating carefully selected thoroughbreds with his brother at Triple Crown Syndications.

Their selections included the likes of Redzel, the inaugural winner of the richest race on turf, The Everest, and the only horse to have won the race in two consecutive years. The champion sprinter earned prize money in excess of $16 million over his career.

To select winning horses, Michael draws on his years of industry knowledge and his detailed research of breeding and racing. He has a unique ability to identify the right combination of breeding and athletic potential in horses and his successful track record speaks for itself.

Not only is Michael an insightful and highly successful selector of racehorses, he is an astute businessman with a solid foundation in financial management, a measured approach to balancing risk and reward, and 20 years of experience in running a thoroughbred syndication business.

Straight Six Racing offers a fresh approach to syndication, with meticulously selected horses and carefully curated syndicates. It brings together like-minded individuals, united by their love of the horse and the thrill of racing.

With Straight Six Racing, owners have the confidence of knowing that their racehorse ownership journey will be guided by the steady hand of one of the most experienced and successful players in the industry. Fundamentally, we care about you and we care about your horse!

Race day entitlements differ slightly between race clubs. However, as a general rule they may include a mix of free entry to the racecourse, tickets to the members’ reserve and mounting yard, your name in the racebook and complimentary food and drinks in the owners’ room.

Win, lose or draw, you will find yourself socialising with fellow owners and interacting with your trainer and jockey to receive the “inside word”. After the race and with a little bit of luck you will end your day celebrating a win in style and working out what to do with your prizemoney!

Individually-owned shares

Shareholdings of 5% or greater may be registered in an individual’s name with Racing Australia. Shareholdings of less than 5% will have their names registered as a member of a Straight Six sub-syndicate (except under special circumstances).

Group-owned shares

A group of family or friends may create their own syndicate (with our assistance if required) to share the joy and fun of ownership amongst them whilst also splitting the costs. Shareholdings of 5% or greater will be registered in the name of the syndicate with Racing Australia. Shareholdings of less than 5% will have their syndicate’s name registered as a member of a Straight Six sub-syndicate.

It is reasonably anticipated that ongoing costs (excluding optional insurance cover) will equate to approximately $70 plus GST per week on average per 5% shareholding pro-rata.

Once the horse’s ownership group is formed, each shareholder is asked to submit a name nomination. A 3-2-1 vote is then held to determine the most popular names. These are then submitted to the Register of Racehorses in order of preference for their final determination.

You will never be left in doubt as to how your horse is progressing. Informative and regular updates will be provided to you through a mix of audio, written and video reports. You will learn everything there is to know about the development of a racehorse from start to finish and have intimate knowledge of the progression of your very own equine friend.

Following a race, each state’s principal racing authority will credit any prizemoney won directly into your chosen bank account, adjusted for your percentage ownership in the horse. Payment runs are generally conducted on a fortnightly basis.

Certainly. A mutually convenient time for you and the trainer or spelling farm will be arranged.

Absolutely. You may elect to do this either publicly (via an online sale) or privately. The purchaser of the share must agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of the Product Disclosure Statement and Syndicate Deed for the relevant syndicate.

Once a horse is retired from racing it is found a suitable new home where it will continue to be loved and well cared for. Post-racing scenarios are varied and may see the horse become a broodmare, therapy horse, showhorse, pleasure horse, eventer or even as a nanny to an orphaned foal.
